Named “Casitas de Esperanza” – or houses of hope – this Pallet shelter village meets the needs of families experiencing homelessness. Shelters are equipped with folding beds, storage, windows, and heat and air conditioning. Showers, bathrooms, and a 400 sq. ft. community room are also on-site.
This solar-powered village is located at the old San Jose City Hall. Part of a long-range housing plan, this village opened in February 2021, thanks to the San Jose Conservation Corps building team. They assembled all the shelters in this village. The corps provides marginalized youth with living wage employment and job training.
